Living in France

British Citizens living in France on or before 31 December 2020 are allowed to stay in France without a residence or work permit until 30 September 2021.
 

1. British nationals residing in France or coming to settle there before 31 December 2020 must apply for a residence permit online on this site before 1 July 2021:

NOTE: It is not possible to apply for the WA (withdrawal agreement) residency permit whilst holding a TSS (Titre de Séjour Spécial) or other permit.
 

2. Visa for taking up residence in France:

For Long Stay (more then 90 days in any period of 180 days).
As of 1st JANUARY !!!!, UK newcomers wishing to reside in France will have to obtain a French multiple-entry long-stay D-type visa “carte promae solliciter à l’arrivée” from the French Consulate competent for their place of residence. This will allow the establishment of a TSS (Titre de Séjour Spécial) .

For Short stay (maximum 90 days in any period of 180 days).
UK Citizens are exempted from the visa requirement but the convention d’accueil (short stay work permit for France) is still required.

Living in Switzerland

As of 1st January, UK Citizens taking up residence in Switzerland will *not* have to obtain a visa, whether or not their stay exceeds 90 days in a 180 day period.

COVID-19 specific travel requirement for UK residents

If you are coming to Switzerland by plane, for short or long period a laissez-passer is mandatory.
Procedure to obtain the laissez-passer
Send an e-mail to the Swiss consulate including the following information:
- Full name
- Date of Birth
- Nationality
- Travel dates and reason for travel.
- A scanned version of your passport.

The procedure is by email, no need to go to the Swiss consulate and it usually takes 2/3 days to get the laissez-passer.
